It’s been seven years since Wayne Boyd won his first Formula Ford Festival, pairing the win in 2008 with the British Formula Ford Championship. As 2015 marked the celebration for the 40th Anniversary of the Brands-Hatch world renowned event, Boyd was hoping for an historic repeat.
Together once again, Boyd and the Medina Team were showing a good pace in preparation for the race despite Boyd not having raced at all this season. He took Heat 1 with a lights-to-flag performance setting best lap in the process. Starting the Semi-Finals on the pole, again Boyd was impressive, after dropping to second for a mere 4-laps, he took the lead and again never looked back. Seemingly the competition would get tighter towards the final, but the driven Boyd simply left no room for doubt. His dominant performance was capped by leading the Final race again, lights-to-flag which included a mid-race red flag bringing a re-start with only ten laps to go. Boyd still won by a margin of almost 5 seconds.
Wayne commented, “Absolutely delighted to win the festival for the 2nd time. It’s 3rd time lucky for Medina sport and I. We’ve worked hard for it! Difficult race with having a good gap before the red flag then having to do it all over again, especially going into the corner with the oil down first. Huge thanks to Medina, DHL and my family & friends”
Leading every lap of his races at the Formula Ford Festival certainly puts Boyd in a class by himself….and made for a pretty great way to celebrate his birthday as well.
Boyd will head next to Silverstone to defend his Walter Hayes Trophy Title.
